Shatter the pigment. Reveal the clarity.
PicoPlus is a pigmentation laser that delivers energy in picoseconds (one-trillionth of a second), far shorter than nanosecond lasers, to selectively shatter only melanin pigment. With multiple wavelengths and handpieces, it treats from shallow blemishes to deep melasma layer by layer. Diagnosis and settings are handled personally by head director Dr. Seojin Jae.
Even similar-looking melasma and blemishes differ in root depth, melanin activity, and the condition of the surrounding barrier. Karin matches wavelength and energy differently to each lesion.
Picosecond Power
Strong energy released in a very short time breaks clustered pigment into fine particles, which are expelled from the body, so you can expect clearer skin with fewer sessions.
Multi-wavelength
With multiple wavelengths and handpieces, it treats complex pigmentation settled in different layers, from shallow freckles and lentigines to deep melasma and nevus of Ota.
Gentle on the Barrier
Because energy stays on the skin only briefly, thermal damage to surrounding tissue and discomfort are reduced, and even thin, sensitive skin can receive treatment in relative comfort.
PicoPlus delivers energy only to melanin pigment through ultra-short pulses of light lasting one-trillionth of a second. Clustered pigment shatters into fine particles, which are gradually cleared by the body’s natural processes.
Epidermal blemishes and freckles sit at a different depth from dermal melasma and nevus of Ota. The head director sets the wavelength and energy for each lesion.
Energy is delivered only for an extremely brief moment, easing the heat on surrounding tissue and concentrating on pigment.
Clusters of pigment break apart into very small particles.
Shattered pigment is cleared by the body’s natural processes and the tone brightens. The number of sessions and intervals depend on the type and depth of pigment.
Even within one face, blemishes settle in shallow layers while melasma and nevus of Ota settle in deep ones. The head director divides by depth and sets the wavelength and energy.

Diagnosis first
With 15 years of clinical experience, the head director personally assesses your skin tone, type of pigmentation, and depth of the lesion. Protecting normal tissue and targeting only the pigment, this treatment also improves the dermal environment, aiming to build the skin’s own ability to clear itself.
The head director personally assesses the type and depth of pigment and your barrier condition.
Wavelength, energy, and handpiece are set for each lesion.
The head director holds the handpiece and performs the treatment personally.
After soothing and brightening care, we review the changes and set your next session.

Freckles and blemishes sit in shallow layers while melasma and nevus of Ota sit in deep ones, so even the same laser needs different settings. At Karin Clinic in Myeongdong, the head director first assesses the depth of pigment, then decides the right device, PicoPlus or Clarity II, and the wavelength.
It depends on the type and depth of pigment. Deep melasma and complex pigmentation are often treated over several sessions, so we set the number of sessions and intervals with you after your assessment.
In most cases, you can return to daily life the same day. Temporary redness or fine scabbing may occur, and sun protection and moisturizing are important.
Melasma can recur under the influence of UV exposure, hormones, and lifestyle. Rather than removing only surface pigment, we also care for the dermal environment and barrier, treating in a way that reduces the risk of recurrence.
PicoPlus excels at shattering pigment into fine particles, while Clarity II uses dual wavelengths to treat pigmentation, flushing, and fine hair together. Depending on the lesion, they are sometimes combined.
