How to Plan Skin Treatments Around a Seoul Trip: Downtime, Timing and Flights

Book your skin treatment early in your Seoul trip, not on the last day, and match the treatment to your available days. Most lifting and booster treatments allow a return to daily life the same day, but marks and bruises can last from a day to about two weeks. Treatments that need a series will not fit into one short trip.

How to Plan Skin Treatments Around a Seoul Trip: Downtime, Timing and Flights

It is easy to plan the sightseeing in great detail and then fit your skin into whatever time is left. I would rather you plan it the other way round, at least for the first few days. A treatment that suits your face can still be the wrong choice for your calendar.

How much downtime does each treatment need?

This table is my starting point for planning. “Same day” means you can usually return to daily life, not that you will look untouched. These figures vary between individuals, and stacking several treatments generally lengthens recovery.

TreatmentWhat you may seeTypical durationI would not schedule it
Ultherapy PrimeRedness, swelling, welting, tenderness, occasional bruisingHours for redness, up to 72 hours for swelling, up to 2 weeks for tenderness or bruisingOn your last day
Shurink UniverseTemporary redness, a dull acheUsually settles naturallyRight before a flight, if you can avoid it
OligioTemporary redness or warmthUsually settles naturallyRight before a flight, if you can avoid it
RejuranRaised bumps at injection sites, possible bruisesBumps usually a day or two, bruises can last longerWithin a few days of an event or photos
Skinvive or Re2OTemporary swelling, small marksUsually a few daysWithin a few days of an event or photos
Potenza & JuvelookRedness, fine marksA few daysOn your last day
PicoPlus or Clarity IITemporary redness, sometimes fine scabbingVaries with settings and skinBefore a beach trip or a lot of sun
3-Layer LiftingRedness, swelling, small bruisesA few daysWithin a week of an event, if you can avoid it

The Ultherapy durations come from the manufacturer’s Instructions for Use, and that document also notes that temporary numbness or muscle weakness, if it occurs, typically resolves in 2 to 6 weeks. For microneedling, the American Academy of Dermatology says redness or darker shades usually disappear in a few days to a week, and advises holding off on makeup for a full day.

When in your trip should you book?

Early, if you can. Some guides suggest saving treatments for your last day so that redness does not spoil your photos. I understand the logic, but I do not like it as a default, for one practical reason: if anything needs checking, you would already be on a plane. Having a few days between your treatment and your flight also gives you time to recover somewhere other than a pressurized cabin.

A workable pattern for a five- to seven-day trip looks like this:

  1. Day 1 or 2: Arrive, rest, and go to your consultation. Bring a list of what you have had before and any medications you take.
  2. Day 2 or 3: Treatment. Keep the rest of the day light and indoors.
  3. Next few days: Museums, food and shopping, with a hat and sunscreen, rather than a beach or hours outdoors.
  4. A day or two before you fly: Check that you are comfortable, and ask about anything that concerns you. If you can come in, I can look at your skin in person.

If you have only two or three days, choose a treatment with lighter recovery, and accept that you will do less. I would rather give you a smaller plan that suits your schedule than an ambitious plan you have to recover from at the departure gate.

How do clinic closing days affect your plan?

This is easy to overlook. Karin Clinic is open weekdays 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00. We are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays, and holiday hours vary by month, so check the calendar on our location page before you book your flights.

If your treatment is onKeep in mind
MondayYou can come back on Tuesday if something concerns you
TuesdayWe are closed the next day, so your first in-person check would be Thursday
Thursday or FridayThe clinic is open for the following day
SaturdayWe close at 16:00 and are closed on Sunday, so your first in-person check would be Monday

If you have a choice, a Monday, Thursday or Friday appointment gives you an easier next day.

How soon can you fly after a skin treatment?

I looked for an authoritative rule on this and did not find one. There is no widely accepted waiting period that I can point you to for these treatments, and travel blogs that state an exact number of days generally do not cite anything. So I will tell you how I think about it instead of inventing a figure:

  • Allow for your own recovery. Use the table above and add a margin. Bruising, for example, can last up to two weeks.
  • Leave time for a check. The main reason for spacing treatment and departure is access to the person who treated you.
  • Consider cabin dryness. Pack a travel-size moisturizer and sunscreen in your carry-on, especially after a laser or microneedling.
  • Tell me your flight time. Long-haul travel, your medical history and the treatment itself may all change my advice.

Can you do everything in one visit?

Some programs are designed for a single visit. Our 3-Layer Lifting and 3-Layer Skinbooster take place on one day, in a single location, and I design them so the layers do not overlap. Stacking different treatments without a plan is another matter. Patient accounts of stacked treatments tend to describe more swelling and a longer recovery. It also becomes impossible to tell which treatment produced which result.

If you are new to these treatments, I suggest starting with whichever one addresses your main concern. You can always add more on your next trip.

Which treatments do not fit into a single trip?

Be realistic about these, because they are where disappointment usually starts:

  • Rejuran. Often planned as several sessions two to four weeks apart. One session is a start. My Rejuran guide covers this in detail.
  • Melasma and pigmentation lasers. These usually need multiple sessions, and I would not promise a result from a single trip. See my melasma article.
  • Acne scars. For microneedling combined with PRP, the American Academy of Dermatology describes 3 to 5 treatments every 2 to 4 weeks, and full results usually take several months. Scar plans in general are rarely a one-visit project.
  • Facial hair removal with Clarity II. Several sessions are often needed.

If you are staying in Seoul for several weeks, or you live here, these become far easier to plan.

What should you do before you arrive?

  • List your medications, including blood thinners, and any allergies, including fish allergy if you are considering Rejuran.
  • Mention pregnancy or breastfeeding, implants, previous filler, a history of keloids and recent isotretinoin.
  • Avoid getting a tan or sunburn right before your trip. The American Academy of Dermatology advises waiting if you have either before microneedling.
  • Send your travel dates when you book, so that we can check them against the calendar.
  • Bring sunscreen and a hat, and plan some indoor days afterward.

Please also check what your budget needs to cover. Our price list is public, and the prices on it do not include VAT. For example, Ultherapy Prime 300 shots is 1,400,000 KRW and Rejuran Healer 2cc is 280,000 KRW, VAT not included. If you are still choosing a clinic, you may find my article on how to tell what kind of clinic you are booking helpful.

You can reach us on WhatsApp or book online, and we are close to Myeongdong Station (Line 4) Exit 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get skin treatments at the start or end of my Korea trip?

I prefer the start, or at least not the last day. That gives you time to recover and to come back for a check if something concerns you before you fly.

How many days do I need in Seoul for Ultherapy?

Most people return to daily life the same day, so a short stay can work. I would still avoid treating on your last day, since swelling can last up to 72 hours and tenderness or bruising can last longer.

Can I go sightseeing after a treatment?

Usually, yes, though keep the rest of that day light. Sun protection matters, especially after lasers. Keep your plans flexible in case you are swollen or bruised.

Can I get treated on a Wednesday or Sunday?

Karin Clinic is regularly closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Holiday hours vary by month, so please check the calendar on the location page before you finalize your dates.

Do I need a consultation before my treatment day?

Every plan at Karin Clinic starts with a 1:1 assessment by the head director. Send your dates when you book, and we can tell you how the consultation and treatment fit into your schedule.

Every consultation is with Dr. Jae, in person.
